Reasons for Interest in Mein Kampf

To every action there is cause and my interest in this book is no exception. My primary interest in this book was to learn how much Hitler disclosed of his evil intentions. An office acquaintance once told me that the Jews bore some responsiblity for their fate in the holocaust because they had sufficient warning of Hitler's genocidal intentions. I offered an argument for the old, the feeble and the invalid but my acquaintance was not assuage. Nonetheless, to leave one's home and homeland is no casual matter; clearly, any one would have to have a compelling impetus for doing so. Also, the reality of the Jews' fate (institutionalized public ridicule, slavery, mass murder) must have been as inconceivable as it is to believe that someone can deny the holocaust. What recent historical event could the Jews use to convince themselves of such a future reality? Even if Hitler does make an overt, direct expression of intention to kill Jews, how can anyone take him seriously until he gains a position of power which allows him the opportunity?
